Giant Bottle Flowers!

About a year ago I saw this huge bottle flower in Durham, NC. Did not have the camera with me, but promised myself I'd return with a camera. It was a nice cloudy day and I  was close by with some free time and I finally took some photos for your enjoyment. Just might have to get my plumber buddy who enjoys working with scrap steel and a welder make us one of these.

I wondered how the bottles were installed as you do not want water getting inside, the water freezes and breaks the bottles. Now I know the artist welded in lag screws which you screw into corks to hold the bottles in.  believe this is the best bottle art I have seen.... We have enough blue bottles saved to make 6 of these I'd guess.

Re-purposed antique electric line insulator vase

You may have seen an antique electric line insulator before, but you've probably never seen one used quite like this! Made from depression glass and dating from somewhere around the 1950s, this insulator not only works great on top of an electric pole but makes a unique and amusing "air" vase as well. And just like a weeble wobble, it wobbles but it doesn't fall down! :)

An instant conversation piece, this vase comes complete with your very own tillandsia plant which I have selected specifically for this piece. I have chosen the plant that I call Magnum (though you may rename him whatever you like) this time around as I feel that his palmy personality and horizontal reach are a nice compliment to the insulator's slim design. Tillandsias are a wonderfully fun genus of plant from the Bromeliad family that, obviously, do not need soil to grow. They also require very little maintenance - just an occasional watering, a nice sunny spot and a little love.

Etched Re-purposed Wine Bottle Glasses

This is a beautiful set of 4, hand etched glasses, made from wine bottles that have been cut and sanded. I have used a variety of amber Chardonnay bottles, so the colors vary slightly. Each glass is 4 1/2 Inches tall and has a diameter of 3 Inches.
