Clever ideas for organizing your kitchen and bathroom

Each year, when September comes, it brings a feeling for change and renewal in our lives. So here are a few ideas for our homes, images we can use as inspiration to make these spaces more beautiful and organized.

Ετσι λοιπόν σας προτείνω μερικές ιδέες για τους χώρους του σπιτιού μας, εικόνες που μπορούμε να χρησιμοποιήσουμε σαν εμπνευση και να ξεσηκώσουμε ιδέες για να ομορφήνουμε και να βελτιώσουμε τη λειτουργικότητα των χώρων αυτών. 

A few ideas for the kitchen include metal baskets nailed to the wall to put fruit in, we can find these in shops with home products in many designs {image 1}. Painting the inside of a cupboard door with magnetic paint (you can find it here) and then using the Ikea metal tins to store our spices,  it is a very good way of organizing our spices and also saving up space {image 2}. We can also use a corner in our kitchen where we'll store our spices in glass vessels, placing then orderly so that we'll have a clean and neat space {image 3}. Another great idea to organize all the things in kitchen drawers is to use plastic containers, they will keep everything in its place and make the drawer more tidy {image 4}.

Για την κουζίνα οι προτάσεις πολλές, για να οργανώσουμε τα συρτάρια και ντουλάπια μας αλλά και για να ομορφύνουμε το χώρο.
Μεταλλικά καλαθάκια βιδωμένα στον τοίχο είναι μια ωραία και βολική λύση για να βάζουμε τα φρούτα μας, μπορούμε να τα βρούμε σε μαγαζιά με είδη σπιτιού σε διάφορα σχέδια {εικ.1}. Μια πολύ καλή λύση για τα μπαχαρικά μας είναι να βάψουμε το εσωτερικό ενός ντουλαπιου με μαγνητική βαφή (μπορείτε να την βρείτε εδώ και εδώ) και στη συνέχεια να χρησιμοποιήσουμε μεταλλικά κουτάκια που βρισκουμε στο Ikea {εικ.2}. Ένας ακόμα τρόπος να φυλάμε τα μπαχαρικά είναι σε μια γωνιά της κουζίνας χρησιμοποιώντας διαφανή δοχεία τοποθετώντας τα με τάξη, έτσι ώστε να δημιουργήσουμε έναν καθαρό και τακτοποιημένο χώρο {εικ.3}. Μια καλή ιδέα είναι να χρησιμοποιήσουμε μικρά πλαστικά κουτάκια στο εσωτερικό των συρταριών, βοηθούν πολύ στην οργάνωση όλων των αντικειμένων του συρταριού και αποφεύγουμε τη δημιουργία χάους. {εικ.4}

The bathroom requires a lot of organizing as it the place where we store a lot of things such as towels, cleaning products, soaps as well as our personal things and cosmetics. To make the space look more harmonious we can use baskets lined with fabric with pretty colors and patterns {image 1}. We can use the inside of the cupboards to nail small wooden or metal shelves to store more things {image 2}. We can also use a slide rail with wire baskets under our sink and store our cleaning products and supplies {image 3} Finally a great idea is to have baskets with name tags, mommy's basket and the kid's basket for example where everything we need will be stored there {image 4}.

Το μπάνιο είναι ενας χώρος που απαιτεί μεγάλη οργάνωση, καθώς εκεί συνήθως αποθηκεύουμε πράγματα όπως πετσέτες, καθαριστικά, σαπούνια αλλά και τα προσωπικά μας είδη και καλυντικά. Δίνουμε ομοιομορφία και χρώμα στο χώρο χρησιμοποιώντας καλαθάκια με ένα ωραίο ύφασμα με χαρούμενα χρώματα και σχέδια {εικ.1}. Για να οργανώσουμε το χώρο και τα υλικά μας καλύτερα, μπορούμε να χρησιμοποιήσουμε ακόμα και την εσωτερική μεριά της πόρτας των ντουλαπιών για να βιδώσουμε μικρά ξύλινα ή μεταλλικά ραφάκια έτσι ώστε να χωρέσουμε περισσότερα πράγματα {εικ.2}. Μπορούμε επίσης να τοποθετήσουμε μια ράγα στο εσωτερικό του ντουλαπιού, ετσι ώστε να έχουμε μικρά μεταλλικά καλάθακια να βγαίνουν συρταρωτά {εικ.3}. Μια ακόμα έξυπνη λύση είναι να χρησιμοποιήσουμε καλαθάκια με καρτελίτσα ονόματος, άλλο καλαθάκι για τα πράγματα της μαμάς και άλλo για των παιδιών, εχουμε ότι χρειαζόμαστε σ'ενα καλάθι. {εικ.4}

EGST - Jewelry and workspace organizing tips

An absolute essential component of any woman's wardrobe are her jewelry, so here are a few ways to organize them better.

A quick and easy tip is to use a frame with a thick cardboard wrapped in our favorite fabric. After we pin small hooks on it we can then hang our favorite pieces {image 1}. We can also use two or three frames, without any fabric, simply pining our jewelry {image 3}. Using plastic dividers inside our drawers is a smart and easy way of storing and organizing our accessories {image 2}. A lovely idea is to use different kinds of bowls and trays, with pretty designs on them and fill them with our necklaces, bracelets and rings. Placing them on our dresser creates a small display, a little shop where we can choose what we want to wear easily {image 4}

Τα κοσμήματα είναι απολύτως απαραίτητα σε κάθε γυναίκα, γι αυτό να μερικοί τρόποι να τα οργανώσουμε στο χώρο μας. Μια γρήγορη και εύκολη λυση είναι να χρησιμοποιήσουμε μια κορνίζα, με κάποιο σκληρό χαρτόνι τυλιγμένο με ένα ύφασμα που να μας αρέσει. Αφού του καρφώσουμε μικρά γαντζάκια μπορούμε να βάλουμε τα κοσμήματά μας και νο στερεώσουμε την κορνίζα στον τοίχο, έτσι έχουμε και οργάνωση των κοσμημάτων μας άλλα και μια ενδιαφέρουσα διακοσμητική νότα στο δωμάτιο {εικ.1}. Μπορούμε επίσης να χρησιμοποιήσουμε δυο-τρείς κορνίζες με τον ίδιο τρόπο, γεμίζοντας έτσι τον τοίχο {εικ.3}. Μια ακόμα πρόταση είναι να χρησιμοποιήσουμε πλαστικά διαφανή διαχωρίστικα μέσα στο συρτάρι και εκεί να ξεχωρίσουμε κοσμήματα και αξεσουάρ {εικ.2}. Τέλος, μια πολύ όμορφη ιδέα είναι να χρησιμοποιήσουμε μπολ και δίσκους πάνω στη συρταριέρα μας και να τα γεμίσουμε με τα κοσμήματά μας. Φτιάχνουμε έτσι μια μικρή έκθεση, ενα μαγαζάκι απ' όπου θα "ψωνίζουμε" το κόσμημα που θέλουμε πριν βγούμε {εικ.4}.

Accessories Wardrobe, Or I (finally) Put My Jewelry In Order!

Who hasn’t been frazzled from digging through a mess, trying to combine their accessories with their outfit? Or who hasn’t dreamed of having a single, convenient way of displaying all her accessories? I will try to answer these questions by proposing three solutions for organizing your accessories and especially jewelry, so you can easily look through and arrange your collection. With these three solutions we can organize our accessories while decorating our bedroom! These three proposals were made with the number, type of jewelry and the style of the room in mind. Moreover, they are quite affordable and easy to construct.

Ποιά δεν έχει αγανακτήσει ψάχνοντας μέσα σ’ ένα χαμό για να συνδυάσει κάποιο από τα αξεσουάρ με το ντύσιμο της; Ή που δεν έχει ονειρευτεί να έχει μια γκαρνταρόμπα μόνο με τα αξεσουάρ της; Σε αυτά τα ερωτήματα θα προσπαθήσω να απαντήσω προτείνοντας τρεις λύσεις για την οργάνωση των αξεσουάρ και ειδικά των κοσμημάτων έτσι ώστε να μπορούμε να έχουμε μια συνολική εποπτεία τους ανά πάσα στιγμή. Οι τρεις λύσεις είναι τέτοιες ώστε η οργάνωση αυτή, να συνδυάζεται και με μια διακοσμητική πρόταση για το δωμάτιό μας! Είναι και οι τρεις ενδεικτικές και μπορούν, εννοείται, να δεχτούν πολλές παραλλαγές ανάλογα τόσο με τον αριθμό και το είδος των κοσμημάτων όσο και το ύφος του χώρου. Επίσης, όλες είναι αρκετά οικονομικές και εύκολες στο να κατασκευαστούν.


Solution no.1 – Organizing necklaces and scarves
Λύση no.1 – Οργάνωση κολιέ και κασκόλ

In this case we can see a way to sort our necklaces and scarves. This construction requires a steel wire that we can bend forming various shapes (such as the S shape of the photo) or just stretch it to form a straight line. Using multiple steel wires, you can make an arrangement with longer or narrower lines, depending on the space available. Alternatively, instead of steel wire we can use rope (e.g. climbing rope which is quite strong and comes in a variety of colors) together with looped screws and get similar results. Another option is to use thin curtain rods in various lengths and materials (just pay attention not to use very long and very narrow ones because the weight of the jewelry could bend them)!

Σε αυτή την περίπτωση βλέπουμε ένα τρόπο για να τακτοποιήσουμε τα κολιέ και τα κασκόλ μας. Η κατασκευή χρειάζεται ένα συρματόσκοινο το οποίο μπορούμε να κάμψουμε σε διάφορα σχήματα (όπως το σχήμα S της φωτογραφίας) ή απλά να τεντώσουμε σχηματίζοντας μία ευθεία. Με χρήση πολλών συρματόσκοινων μπορούμε να κάνουμε μια σύνθεση με μακρύτερες ή στενότερες ευθείες, ανάλογα με την επιφάνεια τοίχου που έχουμε διαθέσιμη. Εναλλακτικά, αντί για τα συρματόσκοινα μπορούμε να χρησιμοποιήσουμε χοντρά σκοινιά (π.χ. τα σκοινιά ορειβασίας είναι αρκετα ανθεκτικά και με ωραία χρώματα) που μαζί με τις βίδες με θηλιά στην άκρη, μπορούν να δώσουν παρόμοιο αποτέλεσμα. Μια ακόμα λύση, είναι η χρήση λεπτών κουρτινόξυλων σε διάφορα μήκη και υλικά(προσοχή να μην χρησιμοποιήσετε πολύ μακρυά και πολύ στενά κουρτινόξυλα γιατί με το βάρος των κοσμημάτων μπορεί να κάνουν “κοιλιά” στη μέση)!

SOOOO I guess there was a sale on bar soap at our grocery store because the hubby came home with 12 boxes of Irish Spring. Eh... the good thing is, I now have 12 little boxes to work with. I used six of them today and made myself a desk organizer for pencils, brushes, scissors, or what-have-you. It was easy and inexpensive. Here's what you'll need to make yourself one of these:

• six soap boxes
• Mod Podge, or another gluey material
• scrapbook paper
• cork paper (found at my local dollar store, it's made for scrapbooking)
• ruler, scissors, brush

Start by cutting the top flaps off of the boxes.   Then arrange them around until you get the shape you want.  I decided just to have one row or boxes, but the sky's the limit here.  Any shape, as many boxes, you can get creative as you want. 

  Next, glue them together.

I used a pretty liberal amount of glue.  The hardest part is holding them together (clothespins are really helpful here).

When the boxes are all glued together and dry, start adding paper to cover up the inside of the boxes.  Measure the sides and depth and cut the scrapbook paper to fit; apply it with more Mod Podge.  I used a ruler to press the paper flat inside the boxes.

Fold the top of the paper over and glue to the outside of the box. You'll cover this up later, so it doesn't have to be perfect.  Once everything on the inside is covered with paper, the cork paper comes next.

One piece of 12x12 cork paper was just enough for my organizer.  I cut it in half, and pretty wrapped both sides like a present.  Start by gluing one half onto the side...

... and cut up to the bottom corners.  Cut out a triangle on each side (just to make it much easier to fold and glue to the sides and bottom).  You'll need lots of glue for this paper; the cork absorbs quite a bit of it, so a little extra won't hurt anyone.  Hold it down, or weigh it down because this paper likes to pop up.

So with some folding, lots of gluing, and holding, wrap the paper around the boxes. (I didn't get too many pictures of this, my hands were a little busy)...

Let it dry; you can add a layer of Mod Podge on the cork, but it will make it a little darker and not as soft.  Up to you, though, whatever you like.

Upcycled Organizers

With a new year we get a fresh start to get our lives more organized. And if your organizers are free (and cute) it’s even better! This project uses castaways from your recycle bin and things you already have in your home.

1. To cover a small coffee tin, use contact paper or fabRips.
Trim to size and gently stick on container, going slowly to prevent air bubbles

2. Use paper punches to create tags and affix number stickers.
Punch hole in tags and use twine to secure on container

 3. Fill your cute containers with stuff you need to keep handy

Congratulate yourself on a completing a fast, fun and free(!) project
